Dr. Chitra Golestani is a faculty member at Valparaiso University and the Institute for Humane Education in a hybrid Master of Education program. She is a co-founder of the Paulo Freire Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where she is a research associate and lecturer. Certificate in Soto Zen Buddhist Studies Now Offered Online

For the last five years, the Institute of Buddhist Studies has offered the Certificate in Sōtō Zen Buddhist Studies, a six course survey of Sōtō Zen history and texts. Starting this Spring 2021, the certificate program has been officially approved by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) to operate fully online. The Graduate Theological Union mourns the loss of our fourth president, Robert “Bob” Barr, who tragically passed away at his home in San Diego, CA, on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, due to COVID-19 related complications. The Graduate Theological Union welcomes Dr. Mahjabeen Dhala as Assistant Professor of Islamic Studies and Director of the Madrasa-Midrasha Program, a collaborative effort of the Center for Islamic Studies and Center for Jewish Studies.  Dr. Dhala received her MA in Islamic Studies from the GTU in 2017 and is part of the Class of 2021 for her PhD from the GTU’s Department of Sacred Texts and their Interpretation. Sandra C. Fernández’s exhibition showcased her series, Borders. These embellished prints contemplate both the concept of borders as well as their reality, by focusing on the objects left behind by those crossing the Rio Grande. While the beauty of Fernández’s art naturally appeals to people of many cultures and faith traditions, it is clear that she approaches her work from a Latina, Catholic perspective. Carrie was in the fifth year of her doctoral work at the GTU, specializing in New Religious Movements.
