Bajpai Scholarship Endowment

The Graduate Theological Union is honored announce the establishment of

The Professor Shiva G. Bajpai Scholarship Endowment

This endowed fund, created by the family of Professor Shiva G. Bajpai and intended to honor the incredible legacy of Professor Bajpai’s life and educational work, provides funding for scholarships for students pursuing the MA concentration in Hindu Studies, the MA concentration in Yoga Studies, or a PhD concentration in Hindu Studies at the Center for Dharma Studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA.

Professor Bajpai taught at California State University Northridge for forty years, and was instrumental in bringing Hindu studies to the Graduate Theological Union. His teaching focused on the history of India and World History, and he created and directed the Asian Studies interdisciplinary major at Cal State Northridge from its inception.

As an educator and teacher, Professor Bajpai influenced several generations of students, guiding them into becoming well-rounded and critical-thinking citizens, teachers, and intellectuals. Always, he strove to present a non-Western perspective rooted in original sources about the history, culture, and character of one of the great civilizations of the world.

It is only fitting that Professor Bajpai’s family chose the Graduate Theological Union, an interreligious theological graduate school, in which to continue the legacy of Professor Bajpai’s life.
