Mercy: The Heart of Peace, An Interfaith Meeting of Prayer for Peace

Hosted by the Archdiocese of Oakland, Mercy: the Heart of Peace will embody the message that peace lies at the heart of religion, and that believers are called to be peacemakers and instruments of mercy. GTU President Riess Potterveld will be among those offering public prayers at the event, which features participants representing multiple faith traditions. 

Program

 

5:45 pm: Prayer for Peace: Five spaces provided for Judaism, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Buddhism.

 

6:30 pm: Panel Dialogue on "Mercy: the Heart of Peace," featuring panelists of Islam, Judiasm, and Christianity. Panelists include

  • Dr. Professor Musdah Mulia, President of the Indonesian Conference on Religions for Peace.
  • Rabbi Professor Daniel Sperber, Former Chair of the Zionist Religious Education in the Israeli Cabinet.

  • Bishop Ioan Casian of Vicina, Auxiliary Bishop of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in the Americas.

 

8:00 pm Procession and Appeal for Peace
