The Borsch-Rast Book Prize and Lectureship of the Graduate Theological Union has as its purpose the encouragement of the writing and publication of theological scholarship by GTU graduates and current faculty. The endowment for the Borsch-Rast Book Prize and Lectureship comes from the sale of Trinity Press International, a venture dedicated to the publication of scholarly and often interdisciplinary theological studies. 2018 GTU Commencement Exercises

During the GTU Commencement Exercises each graduate receives a diploma from the President of the GTU. Each graduate is also individually recognized in the “hooding ceremony,” when the Advisor and Dean place the doctoral or MA hood over the head of the graduate, signifying success in completing the program. Visiting Scholars at the GTU

For more than a decade, the GTU has offered its Visiting Scholar program to faculty from academic institutions who are visiting temporarily in the area and who are not employed locally either by the GTU or any other institution as well as to GTU alumni. The program is intended to enable and facilitate the research projects of those involved which could not be done otherwise.  Visiting Scholars are granted full privileges at the GTU's Flora Lamson Hewlett Library and access to the libraries at the University of California, Berkeley. About Charles S. McCoy Dr. McCoy (1923-2002) served for 33 years as the Robert Gordon Sproul Professor of Theological Ethics at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley before he retired in 1992. In addition to a long and distinguished career as an internationally recognized theologian and ethicist, he was instrumental in the creation of the Graduate Theological Union and its Center for Ethics and Social Policy.
