The GTU offers a variety of certificate programs designed for students who either want to explore theological study for a year before embarking upon a degree program, or who want to add an additional area of expertise to their degree. Interreligious Collaborative Research Projects

Originally funded by the Arthur Vining Davis Foundation in 2016-2017, the Interreligious Collaborative Research Projects are available to teams comprised of at least three researchers (at least one GTU student) under the supervision of a GTU Core Doctoral Faculty member. International Student Resources

Once admitted, international students must secure an I-20 in order to go to the US Consulate to secure an F-1 student visa to be able to study in the United States. Students must show sufficient financial resources to cover living expenses while engaged in a GTU program. Students will need to pay a SEVIS fee online before the meeting with the consulate official. The Admissions Office will work with new students on this process.

Facilities and Services Available to Students with Disabilities

Every student in the GTU has the right of access to all courses without regard to sex, ethnic origin, religious affiliation, age, or disability. Community Education Courses

Some GTU courses may be of interest to community patrons or non-matriculated students who wish to take the course for personal fulfillment. Such courses may be linked to a regular for-credit course or may be completely independent. These courses do not come with an academic credit that can be counted toward a degree or certificate at the GTU. GTU/Mills College Cross-Registration Agreement

The following is the agreement between Mills College (MC) and the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) as of March, 1977: GTU students may take graduate or upper division courses at Mills College on the approval of the instructor for undergraduate courses and the instructor and department head for graduate courses. Visiting Scholars at the GTU

For more than a decade, the GTU has offered its Visiting Scholar program to faculty from academic institutions who are visiting temporarily in the area and who are not employed locally either by the GTU or any other institution as well as to GTU alumni. The Flora Lamson Hewlett Library

The Graduate Theological Union’s main library, the Flora Lamson Hewlett Library in Berkeley, is at the heart of the GTU campus both physically and intellectually. The library building was designed by Louis Kahn, the “architect of light,” and features the distinctive skylight that inspired our GTU logo. We also have a branch library located in the North Bay, on the campus of the San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) in San Anselmo. Both libraries have places for collaboration and group work, silent study, and a helpful staff.
