Support the Potterveld Fund for Interreligious Education and Scholarship

Honor the Legacy of Retiring GTU President Riess Potterveld

Please join the GTU Board of Trustees in honoring the remarkable legacy of Dr. Riess Potterveld by contributing to the Potterveld Fund for Interreligious Education and Scholarship. Under the leadership of President Potterveld, the Graduate Theological Union has become one of the premier institutions for interreligious theological education in North America. While the GTU has long been an innovative center for ecumenical and interfaith scholarship, the blossoming of the GTU as a hub of innovative interreligious dialogue and education during Dr. Potterveld’s presidency has been extraordinary.

Please help the GTU celebrate Riess Potterveld’s legacy and build on the foundation established under his leadership by making a gift to the Potterveld Fund for Interreligious Education and Scholarship.

Dear Friend of the GTU,

Please join the GTU Board of Trustees in honoring the remarkable legacy of Dr. Riess Potterveld by contributing to the Potterveld Fund for Interreligious Education and Scholarship, a fund designated specifically to support interreligious educational programs and the exemplary student scholars who are leading our communities in a world of diverse religions and cultures.

Under the leadership of President Riess Potterveld, who is retiring this summer, the Graduate Theological Union has ascended as one of the premier institutions for interreligious theological education in the North America. While the GTU has always been an innovative center for ecumenical and interfaith dialogue and education, the blossoming of the GTU as a complex center for interreligious education has been extraordinary.

Listed below are but a few of President Potterveld’s achievements over the past five years that have helped build the foundation for GTU’s future. Under Dr. Potterveld’s leadership the GTU has:

  • Created the Mira and Ajay Shingal Center for Dharma Studies and began offering courses in Hindu and Jain studies for the first time in GTU history;
  • Brought the Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences into the GTU as a fully integrated academic unit;
  • Created a beautiful new space for the Doug Adams Gallery and merged the Center for the Arts & Religion into the GTU as fully integrated academic unit;
  • Increased GTU endowed funds by more than $20 million and procured the single largest gift in GTU’s history, a $5.7 million gift designated for student scholarships.

Now you have the opportunity to support the interreligious scholarship championed by President Potterveld and honor his legacy at the same time by making a gift to the Potterveld Fund for Interreligious Education and Scholarship!

Your charitable donation provides important resources for the student scholars who have come to the GTU because of its unique nature as a one of the premier interreligious theological schools in the world. If you have any questions or need additional information about making a gift, please contact GTU’s Office for Institutional Advancement by phone at (510) 649-2531 or by email at advancement@gtu.edu.

Thank you for joining us!

Sincerely,

Susan Cook Hoganson
