The GTU community is invited to a West Coast Memorial Service for Dr. David Bartlett at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church (3534 Lakeshore Avenue, Oakland) on Saturday, January 27, at 2:00. A renowned scholar and pastor, Dr. Bartlett was the author of more than 20 books, and is perhaps best known for his long tenure as professor of preaching and dean at the Yale Divinity School and coeditor of the Feasting on the Word commentary series. Here in the Bay Area, Dr. Bartlett served as assistant professor of New Testament at American Baptist Seminary of the West and the Graduate Theological Union from 1970-1972, and also taught at the GTU and its member schools while serving as pastor of Oakland's Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church from 1981-1987.
Those who would like to sing in the choir for the service should be at the church at 12:30 to rehearse. Dr. Bartlett's wife, Carol, and his sons, Ben and Jonah, are expected to be in attendance.
