The 2019 Taubman Lectures

The Navel of the Dream: Freud's Jewish Languages

Max Weinreich, YIVO, and the Yiddish “Freud Laboratory”

Dr. Naomi Seidman

These lectures will explore the role of Jewish languages in Freud's writings and in the reception and translation of psychoanalysis. Did the translations of Freud's work in Hebrew and Yiddish represent a minor episode in the global dispersion of psychoanalysis, or do they have a special place in this history, as perhaps comprising the "lost originals" of Freud's German writings?

Please join us for the third and final lecture (note earlier start time) given by Naomi Seidman in this year's Taubman Lecture Series. Reception to follow.
