At this Lavender Lunch UK historian Stephen Colbrook examines the careers of California’s gay-activists-turned-policymakers and their role in queering the state bureaucracy during the HIV/AIDS crisis of the 1980s. Colbrook, a graduate student in history at University College London, is currently writing a doctoral dissertation on American policy-making on HIV/AIDS in California, Florida, and Illinois during the 1980s.
