Harvard University Symposium on Love in World Religions | Part I: Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, & Judaism

CDS was delighted to participate in the Harvard Human Flourishing Program to explore the significance and diverse perceptions of love in four religions.

The program addressed the following questions:

  1. How is each tradition's perspective on love distinctive or similar to other traditions?
  2. Are there important within-tradition distinctions?
  3. What is the relation between these two types of love in each tradition: unitive (desire to be with the other) and contributory (desire to contribute to the good of the other)?
  4. How does each tradition promote love and how might this love promote flourishing?
