As Baby Boomers face their own issues with aging, caring for the needs of their parents bring its own unique challenge. What are the ways that congregations can best provide care and community for these “pillars” of the church? Hate crimes based on sexual orientation account for 20% of all hate crimes reported to the FBI in recent years and violence against the transgender community continues at an appalling rate as well. We know that anti-gay religious voices contribute to creating a climate that allows these terrifying crimes to continue at high rates. Many faith leaders, however, are firm in our commitment that all people deserve to live in safety and freedom and that violence is never the appropriate response to our differences.
