About the Project
The Teagle-Wabash Preparing Future Faculty Project has two, intertwined aims: first, participating doctoral students are exploring ways to anchor their teaching with “Big Questions” of value and meaning that will foster critical thinking and ethical reflection among postsecondary students. Second, the project aims to also help these same doctoral students develop practical classroom teaching skills and strategies. The project moves toward these two objectives through a year-long engagement between 12 selected doctoral students and 12 faculty mentors, where doctoral students observe their mentors in classroom teaching and, subsequently, mentors supervise their students as they teach their own classes. Students also participate in a variety of structured educational opportunities, including learning and teaching academies and a semester teaching seminar, and peer-to-peer activities. The last phase of the project will finish at the end of spring semester, 2008.
