2005 Distinguished Faculty Lecture

On Nov. 9th, over 100 people gathered at the GTU to hear the 2005 Distinguished Faculty Lecture, delivered by Dr. Gina Hens-Piazza. Hens-Piazza, professor of biblical studies at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley, gave a talk entitled “Supporting Cast or Supporting Caste: Reading Minor Characters in Biblical Narrative.” The ways we read Biblical texts, she contended, have a close relation to how we read the cultural texts of our own world. Dr. Carol Robb, professor of Christian social ethics at the San Francisco Theological Seminary, provided the response.
