In this lecture, F. LeRon Shults discusses his book "Christology and Science" (2008), which attempts to break new ground by explicitly bringing the specific themes of Christology into dialogue with contemporary science. He engages recent developments in late modern philosophy of science in order to articulate Christian intuitions about the identity, agency and presence of Jesus Christ in a way that responds to challenges and opportunities that have arisen in light of various scientific discoveries. After an overview of the main argument of the book, which contains three case studies (incarnation and evolutionary biology, atonement and cultural anthropology, parousia and physical cosmology), the lecture will emphasize the importance of attending to the mediating role of philosophical categories in the ongoing dialogue between theology and science. About the Forum Speaker: F. LeRon Shults is professor of theology and philosophy at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Norway. In addition to Christology and Science (Ashgate/Eerdmans, 2008), he is the author of eight books and over forty scientific articles or book chapters. Shults is also the chief editor of a new book series by Brill Academic publishers: Philosophical Studies in Science and Religion. His book on The Faces of Forgiveness (with psychologist Steve Sandage) won the Narramore Award for Excellence in the Integration of Theology and Psychology. His current research interests include desire, compassion and philosophies of difference. About the Respondent: Professor Robert J.
