Following our Commencement ceremony on May 9, 2013, newly minted Dr. Ricky Manalo ('13) was profiled by the Catholic Sentinel. During Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the United States, two of Manalo's compositions were selected for Mass.
Father Ricky Manalo, a priest in the Paulist order, earned a doctorate in Asian-American liturgical studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, Calif.

President Nick Carter of Andover Newton Theological School and Rabbi Eric Gurvis of Temple Shalom of Newton recently announced that Dr. Jennifer Peace (Ph.D. '05), Assistant Professor at Andover Newton, and Father Raymond Helmick, S.J. of Boston College, will share the 2013 Rabbi Murray I. Rothman Award for outstanding interreligious leadership.

Jung Eun "Sophia" Park, S.N.J.M. (Ph.D. '08) was recently awarded the first endowed academic position at Holy Names University in Oakland, the Irene Woodward Endowed Professorship in Arts and Humanities. Park is assistant professor of Religious Studies and Philosophy.

The motto of the Graduate Theological Union is “where religion meets the world,” but what does it mean? It’s easy to draw a line between what is “sacred” and “secular” (often whatever is not “sacred”), but that’s not quite it either since religion is part of the world we know and the world interacts with religion. Rather, our motto emphasizes where faith traditions purposefully encounter people and events, sometimes in unique ways — describing this encounter as crossroads, bridges, and dialogue.

Steven T. Georgiou (M.A. '98, Ph.D. '04) delivered the core lectures at St. Bonaventure University's inaugural Robert Lax Week, held March 4-8. Georgiou served as the "Lax Lecture Scholar" for the event due to his expertise on the hermit-sage of Patmos.

Rev. Michael Crosby, O.F.M.Cap. (Ph.D. '89) was scheduled to address Catholic educators at Canadian Forum on Theology and Education in Toronto, but the archdiocese rescinded their approval of Crosby.

At an upcoming symposium, Sunstone West, sponsored by the Mormon publication Sunstone Magazine, the first plenary session will be dedicated to the topic of Mormon Studies at the GTU and the Academy. Included among the plenary speakers are GTU Dean and Professor of Christian Sprituality Arthur Holder, doctoral student Michael Reed, and alumna Sheila Taylor (Ph.D. '11) with Adjunct Professor Robert Rees moderating. Rees and Taylor are featured speakers throughout the symposium.
