Financial Aid Checklist
Note: Students at JSTB, DSPT and SKSM should contact their schools directly for institutional grant/scholarship applications and need not follow the checklist below if they are not interested in any federal aid.
- Complete and return the Financial Aid Supplement to the GTU Financial Aid Office by your school’s priority deadline.
- Submit the 2007-2008 FAFSA to the US Department of Education. The 2007-2008 FAFSA may be submitted after January 1, 2007. We recommend you do this online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. To request a paper FAFSA please call: 800/433-3243. Be sure to designate your school of affiliation in the school section and include the federal school code.
- Complete your 2006 tax return early so that this information will be available if needed. If you have not yet completed your federal tax return use estimated figures rather than missing your school’s priority deadline. If you use estimated tax data when submitting your initial FAFSA, update with the correct tax information as soon as you complete your final federal tax form.
- After submitting the FAFSA, you should receive a Student Aid Report (SAR). Carefully review the SAR and submit any corrections to the federal processor. If your SAR is selected for verification our office will request that you complete a Verification Worksheet and submit a copy of your federal tax return. If any actions, on your part are indicated on the SAR, follow the instructions promptly. A delay in resolution of a federal edit will delay the processing of your financial aid. To check on the status of your FAFSA, call 800/433-3243.
- When your file is complete, an award letter will be produced, which outlines your financial aid package. Once you have received the financial aid award letter, please complete and return a copy of the letter indicating what types of financial aid you accept. Please notify the Financial Aid Office in writing if you receive any additional funding resources not reflected on the award letter.
