GTU/UCB Cross-Registration Agreement
Full-time students in a GTU or member school DEGREE program are allowed to cross-register for courses offered at the University of California, Berkeley, subject to certain conditions. Certificate and Special or (unclassified) students may not cross-register at UCB. The conditions for cross-registration are detailed in the complete GTU-UCB Cross Registration Agreement, which you should read carefully if you are interested in taking courses at UCB. There are no additional fees for cross-registration.
A searchable schedule of UCB courses is available online.
Once you have decided to register for a course at UCB, please follow the procedures for Cross-Registration at UCB.
Note that UCB operates on a different academic calendar than the GTU. Generally, UCB starts their fall term one week earlier than the GTU in August, and begins their spring term in mid-January. See Registration Dates for exact start date.
All GTU students, regardless of academic program, are allowed to use the UCB libraries.
GTU/Holy Names University Cross-Registration Agreement
The following is the agreement between Holy Names University (HNU) and the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) as of February 1998:
- Graduate Theological Union students may take upper-division or graduate course at Holy Names University with the approval of the HNU Division Chairperson (undergraduate courses) or Program Director (graduate courses) and the HNU Registrar. All courses taken by Graduate Theological Union students on a cross-registration basis must also be approved by the Dean of their school of affiliation and the GTU Consortial Registrar.
- Holy Names University full-time seniors and graduate students may take a course at the Graduate Theological Union with the approval of the GTU faculty member offering the course and the GTU Consortial Registrar. Holy Names University students must also obtain the approval from their academic advisor and the HNU transfer credit evaluator.
- Students may cross-register for no more than one course (usually three semester units) in any academic term. Holy Names University students may not cross-register in GTU courses that are also offered for credit at HNU.
- To cross-register, students should file the GTU/HNU cross-registration form by the registration deadline at their host institution. Forms are available from the HNU Registrar, the GTU Consortial Registrar and the Registrars of GTU schools of affiliation. They are not available on-line. See Cross-Registration elsewhere for specific instructions.
- Cross-registered students must follow the academic procedures and deadlines of the host institution.
- Upon completion of the course, credit will be transferred between schools by transcript.
Once you have decided to take a course at HNU, please follow the Cross-Registration procedures for HNU.
Consortial Registration Policies
While the registration system of the GTU is a single system, open to all students of each of the schools, each school maintains its own specific policies. Some are common – like the dates for registration – while others are varied, like the fees assessed for late registration. The table of registration policies shows the common policies and the individual variations by school. When in doubt, consult with the registrar or business office at your school.
Handicapped Access
Every student in the GTU has the right of access to all courses without regard to sex, ethnic origin, religious affiliation, age, or disability. Should a classroom be inaccessible because of a mobility handicap, please notify the Consortial Registrar's Office at 510/649-2462 immediately so that the room assignment can be adjusted.
Religious Holidays
The Core Doctoral Faculty has agreed to schedule no consortial events on major Christian, Jewish, or Buddhist holidays. Such holidays are listed on the Extended Calendar, which also includes other holidays on which individual schools may close. Students wishing to observe major holidays of their religious tradition when classes are otherwise in session should make arrangements with the course instructor(s).
Part-time Enrollment, Leave of Absence, Withdrawal from Program, Requests for Reinstatement, and Termination of Program
The policies for part-time enrollment, leaves of absence, withdrawal from program, requests for reinstatement, and termination of a student’s academic program vary by school and also by academic program. GTU doctoral students may view these policies online, MA students should check the MA student handbook, and students in other programs should contact their registrar and/or dean.
